The Langholm Walks Project
The Langholm Walks Group have waymarked 14 walks in and around the town of Langholm in South West Scotland. The town of Langholm is in Dumfries and Galloway, situated 20 miles north of Carlisle on the western edge of the Border Hills. The first stage of the project was opened on 22nd August 2000 by Magnus Magnusson, chairman of The Paths for All Partnership. The second stage is now complete and there are 14 walks in all with 100 miles of waymarked walks. A new leaflet has been produced which describes thirteen walks with simple maps provided. The most recent walk added to the series is the Moorland Walk which takes in the SSSI area of the Langholm Moors. For more information about the SSSI and Moorland project click here
The Langholm Walks offer a varied selection of woodland and hilltop routes. Ranging from 2.5 to 10 miles in length and from gentle strolls to rough open land, there is something to please most recreational walkers here. To see the 14 routes in more detail, why not visit the Walks page on this website or send for a leaflet (£2.50, inc p&p, cheques payable to Langholm Walks Group) from the Langholm Initiative, Buccleuch Mill, Glenesk Road, Langholm DG13 0ES tel:01387380914.
Each year a walking festival is held, based in Langholm: For details of the 2010 Langholm Walking Festival click here

These walks were inspired by a series of articles written by "Wanderer" in the local paper, The Eskdale and Liddesdale Advertiser. To mark the opening of the Walks, the articles have been published as a book, "Walking with Wanderer". This is available for £5.00 (£6.00 including postage and packing) from the Langholm Initiative at the address above.
